"When I saw the myoma in a ziplock bag, I knew this was the thing that made me suffer."
ReportNo.25

This is being written in hopes that it will provide a small measure of advice or councel to those who are suffering from myoma or other such problems.

Four months ago, I happened to find this home page as I was desparately searching for the end to my suffering. It was only one or two minutes before I was immersed in the case histories and data I was even shocked to find this page because I had not imagined that with special techniques my uterus could be safely returned to its natural state.

By the time I visited Hiroo Medical Clinic, my period was miserably heavy. On the second night and even third nights forced to use disposable diapers I still had to wake up every 1 or 2 hours to go to bathroom otherwise I would like in a pool of blood. Even on the 9th night of my period, sudden attacks of rebleeding made me very, very ashamed of my stained pants at the airport when I want on my business trip. I nearly cried. And every time I went to the bathroom I would sit and wonder how much more of this I could cope with.

However, since I had only my own experience, I didn't know if what I was experiencing was so terribly bad compared to others. I would recall friends say " my period is very heavy". But more importantly, I think I tried to live with the situation because I did not want to lose my uterus. My doctor had told me that my "grapefruit-size" myoma could not be removed without removing the entire uterus and this was too emotionally difficult to accept. Fortunately I find Hiroo Medical Clinic.

I still remember the day I first visited Dr. Saito at his clinic, my hands wet with tension as they gripped the paper I'd listed questions to ask him about my uterus. I was afraid that this doctor would repeat what I was absolutely tired of hearing let's wait and see what happens in few months or so.

But Dr. Saito was different. "How could you allow your uterus to reach this miserable situation without doing anything!" he said to me while looking at ultrasound images. I quickly became defensive because I had done things like taking Chinese Medicine and Chinese acupuncture, partly because my husband and I was not having any luck getting pregnant. To me, the gynecologists were not to be believed because they had never treated me effectively but just kept on with their wait and see attitude or suggested surgical removal of the whole uterus.

It was hard to believe Dr. Saito could save my uterus. I was also not convinced that my period would be much lighter, which was important to me because I had become quite anemic. Dr. Saito then introduced me to one of his patients who had very bad anemia. He called a Miss Tanaka immediately, we met and this really helped me make up my mind.

Upon meeting Miss Tanaka I immediately began telling her my story and she listened very attentively and said to me very gently and quietly "You will surely be all right. Dr. Saito is great doctor and my flow has decreased by 90%. You will be able to travel anywhere without worrying about your period. And don't worry I am not in charge of PR of Hiroo Clinic and won't get any kickbacks!" She was laughing and I was laughing too, I jumped into the train going back home with a bright hope and waited to talk to my husband.

My husband was supportive and said that it is best if I could save my uterus. I started feeling that this would help us out of the problematic situation we had faced together for some 8 years.

So I made up my mind, organized my schedule and made a call to Miss. Tanaka to tell here that my operation had been scheduled for June 22nd. "That is my birthday! You will be perfectly all right on my birthday!", she said.

When I arrived in the morning on June 22nd for my operation, one of the nurses handed me a letter. It was a card from Miss Tanaka wishing me luck. I was deeply touched by her thoughtfulness and I felt less uneasy.

Every time I see Dr. Saito, he repeats "You did not believe me in the beginning; you believed patients more than me." Of course I believed him but talking to people with the same experiences helps me and I appreciated the thoughtfulness of Dr. Saito's introduction. Also while I was hospitalized I noticed he gives considerable attention to his patients. He even allowed my husband into the operating room to show him that my uterus was intact. Furthermore Dr. Saito gave me a detailed file that included MRI photos, blood test results, pictures of the operation and the extracted ugly myoma. This report meant a lot to me. It was a symbol of his belief and confidence and I felt strongly that this would give new life to my uterus.

The day after my operation, Dr. Saito introduced me to the patient in the room next to mine who had the same operation on the same day as I did. We became like friends who shared time on a battlefield. We still keep in touch discussing details of each other's recovery. She was a brave woman. She called for a nurse just once on the night of her operation although normal, weaker patients like me call many times.

I really appreciated my husband's support. He sent me fax messages ever morning and came and saw me at the clinic everyday. I am also very thankful to my parents and my sister and her husband, especially to my mother and my sister who visited me. When my first period after the operation came, I felt reassured that we made the right decision. Everyone, my husband, parents, sister and her husband were pleased to here the good news.

Dr. Saito devotes his life to his clinic and his patients. Two major unique advantages of Hiroo Medical are that Dr. Saito shows you the complete operation procedure and he opens lines of communication between his patients. Those are the 2 major advantages you would never get from other Japanese clinic and hospitals as far as I'm concerned.

Good luck to you.
