"Nothing impossible"
This is a great story of my having encountered a gynecologist who saved my uterus from myoma.

" Not without myoma, but still minimum. Need not any treatment. Take a periodic medical examination once a year ." I was told this diagnosis a few years ago, which was the beginning of my life with an illness called myoma. Bleeding in time of my period had been too much indeed to allow me to neglect the treatment of anemia. When the bleeding was heavy, I rushed to a doctor near by my home to have coagulant injected.

It was in September 1997 when the amount of my period was gradually increasing. I got a phone call at about 10 o'clock at night , which surprisingly indeed let me know of a traffic accident. A person on the other end of the line told me that a car my son was driving was hit by another car. This accident made me overwhelmingly busy in spite of my heavy bleeding. Anything could be of no help to this bleeding.

A gynecologist near my home is an elderly and very kind doctor. I consulted with him about my never ending bleeding which made me suffer from severe anemia. He was so sympathetic that he applied the treatment using hormone with the hope of its ending menstruation. My bleeding stopped and my period did not come for more than six months. My physical condition was somewhat improved. What was feared was that some side effect would possibly emanate from the continuation of this treatment. So we decided to stop this hormone treatment. My sincere wish for my period not to come was betrayed within three days. My routine of frequenting to nearby clinic for treatment of anemia was repeated. Finally this doctor sighed and said " Myoma is not so big. But this condition makes me think that I suggest you to take off the uterus at university hospital . I know a good doctor there." This was the first time he hinted panhysterectomy. I was shocked. What was more shocked was that I could not find any good reason of excuse of avoiding operation. I was 48 years old with one child and no husband.

Two weeks had passed without any effective treatment and the horrible bleeding resumed. Amount of my bleeding was much increased than before. I was attacked with a panic if too much blood pour out from my body and I will die. I put on the switch on my computer and I explored Internet with some blurred expectation to find something helpful. Surprisingly enough I hit upon the homepage of Hiroo Medical Clinic. Miraculously enough, there was written what I had been looking for desperately. I rushed to the telephone and dialed the number which was printed in the homepage. " I want to visit there and see the doctor. " Why I did not look for this in the internet before. I waited impatiently for the next day to come and I headed for Hiroo Medical Clinic. My physical condition was terribly bad with so much bleeding which made me rush to the toilet every time when I changed trains. Two or three steps up the stairs caused me tired. At this time and with my conditions, my journey to the clinic was felt to be like climbing the Mt. Fuji on foot. Finally I reached my destination. I opened the door of Hiroo Medical Clinic and entered. So pretty, so elegant, and very attractive it is.

A gentleman walked down the stairs from the second floor very elegantly. He was not dressed with a white overall which is typical of medical doctors. He does not look like a stern medical doctor. His diagnosis was adenomyoma. " Yes, we can save your uterus" said he very confidently. From every information which I could reach I could not find any other conclusion than panhysterectomy in case of this kind of disease. Still Dr. Saito said that he can take out the myoma without taking off the uterus by his operation. I need not procrastinate my decision. " Please help me, and save my uterus. I agree on an operation"said I without any hesitation .

Before operation, full medical examination including MRI inspection is needed. Dr. Saito arranged for me to take examination next day at a nearby hospital. I felt it was more than impossible for me to be back to home now and to come here again for examination tomorrow. Dr. Saito suggested me to stay a night at a hotel near by the hospital, and he made a reservation for me. It was a long night and I had an ample time to read a book which Dr. Saito handed in to me. I could not stop reading this book where are written stories of 10 patients who were saved by Dr. Saito. This book encouraged me with my thought that there are many people who are much worse than me. Heavy bleeding continued during this night.

From the findings of medical examination, my operation was to be performed two weeks later. One week is needed for me to recover after the operation. So there seemed to be many things to do and deal with before the operation. And I have only two weeks. In spite of this fact, my physical condition did not allow me to behave as I like. Many thoughts swirled in my brain without being able to reach the conclusion. Dr. Saito helped me to decide that I entered the hospital where I had took the examination and I would be given the blood transfusion. I stayed there for four days and got the blood transfusion. My physical conditions was greatly improved by this transfusion. Fortunately the bleeding stopped. I felt an energy filled my body and I could work until the day of my operation.

During operation, Dr. Saito had been continuously talking to me. The topics of conversation were varied. I asked him " Do you play golf, or tennis? What is your hobby." He replied " I do neither. My hobby is operation. To save patients who are suffering from myoma is great, isn't it? There are no organs in human body which we are allowed to take off. Uterus is no exception." I was very encouraged by his words.

The night just after operation was never said to be comfortable. It was a painful night. Nevertheless, I could cope with arising pain as I was convinced of my uterus being in my body as it had been there all my life. If this operation had been panhysterectomy, the night would have been full of tears and despair.

To leave from daily life for some resort and to spend some days at a comfortable pretty inn would be fun and relaxing. Just like this I could very congenially spend a few days at Hiroo Medical Clinic after the operation with intravenous drip infusions which are mildly uncomfortable. Dr. Saito performs operation once a week on Monday and only for two patients. On the same day when I got my operation, one more patient had operation. Her room here was next to my room. She and I are in forties and blood type of us two is the same. It did not take more than ten minutes for us to become good friends. To say the truth, I am 8 years older than her. Her name is Miyabe. Both of us, object oriented, took to tackling with rehabilitation program from the next day. On Tuesday, we walked with pushing the pole of intravenous transfusion injection. Wednesday task was to climb up the stairs from the first floor to the second floor. Lunch and dinner time are chatting time for us, when we could not stop laughing with our hands on the painful wound on our belly. We had many visitors. Some were those who were to get operation in the near future. Some who had got operation came to this clinic to have medical check. From far abroad came some patients to see Dr. Saito. When these patients visited here, Dr. Saito asked us saying " Why not come upstairs and join us for tea." Miyabe and I who love to join the party challenged the great task of walking up the stairs.

It may depend upon each individuals when they can resume the usual life and work. I went to my office on Monday since I left the clinic on Saturday. My work does not require physical energy or moving around, and my office is very near from my home. I made frequent phone calls to Miyabe to talk about my concerns. When our concerns could not be solved, I sent my questions to Dr. Saito by fax or put through a call to him. Answers arrived from him soon enough for me not to worry if the fax arrived him. And I felt relieved. I recovered very quickly. It was within a month that I tried swimming, golf and aerobics. My period which was thought to come no more again came indeed two months later. Now, four months after the operation, I am somewhat uneasy. For I am very fine and physically well. I have never experienced such a vigorous conditions in my whole life. Before operation, Dr. Saito said to me " Patients with adenomyoma will get very well after the operation." It is true. Nothing is more lucky than that I could find Hiroo Medical Clinic in Internet , meet Dr. Saito and have operation. Thanks to Dr. Saito, thanks to my computer.
